Okay I said it; you can't be banned here for saying Dreamworks...lol
With 2/3rds of my 2 years old Edu IRA in Pixar and with Pixar being "bought" for $7.4 billion; it appeared that DWA is undervalued.
So I moved my son's remaining 1/3rd into DWA. As DWA appears the last pure play in animation. I don't see a plethora of studios in 5 years like we have now that are producing big budget animation.
Disney/Pixar Dreamworks Fox (Ice Age next best franchise to Pixar's and Shrek)
The others will be second tier at best (Sony, Warner, Universal, Paramount, etc.)
It's the reason why somebody from the second tier would be interested in acquiring to get to the top tier. The only pure play left is Dreamworks. If it can continue to produce solid hits with ocassional blockbuster, it should generate profits and increase it's market value.
When you list the makers and players out there; the Disney acquisition of Pixar makes sense; Disney couldn't afford Pixar going to a second tier and making that company a top tier and major threat to Disney.
At the same time, it would have been very hard (and maybe lost some directors/animators) if Pixar would have turned its back on the previous film characters and jumped into a new camp after 15 years with Disney.
I don't know many divorces that turned out "pleasant".

DWA's ability to manage their financials needs some work, but I think they'll get that squared away. I don't care for their storytelling style, but I don't have to see the movies to profit from them. If they can't count on quality to keep their heads above water, maybe Paramount's marketing will keep them afloat.
I'll put some money in DWA as soon as I figure out how to explain the traitorous act to my Son.

I don't own it; I made my two year old buy it in his Edu IRA... I know, emotionally I can't bring myself to buy it; economically, I think it makes sense. The Paramount deal is big - interesting to see the 8% (which obviously Pixar could of got on own too) - as well as the upfront payment of $75 million (that's kewl). I'll maybe let him decide to kick my butt later or just sell the darn thing if he constantly is reaching for the Pixar/Disney movies (note: i have no DWA films in my household - sorta a "Barney" rule..lol) - although i guess the wife lets him watch Barney and i understand he does teach fairly well (hee hee)
